As a safety officer, I need to identify trends and come up with reasons why incidents happen, and more importantly how they can be prevented in the future. One of the things I noticed early on is a direct correlation between attitude and safety.
In regards to health and safety, due diligence means that the employer shall take all reasonable precautions, under the particular circumstances, to prevent injuries and accidents in the workplace.
To exercise due diligence, an employer must implement a plan to identify possible workplace hazards and carry out the appropriate corrective action to prevent accidents or injuries arising from these hazards.
At Waymark we like to promote “Think Safe Work Safe Home Safe”. But what does it really take to make that happen?

Safety, of course, plays a huge part in my life as Waymark’s Safety Officer. I’ve been lucky enough to hold this position for 5 years now and have learned a lot along the way. I will be sharing with all of you, all of the new knowledge as I receive it. Safety is an ongoing process and encompasses not only our working life but in our home life too.
Safety isn’t always as easy to understand as we would like, and is never simply black and white- there are a lot of grey areas. I will strive to make safety not only easier to understand for everyone, but I will try to have a little fun with it too!
